Debut at the Ateneul Român

Updated: Sep 19, 2023

At the end of march, Liviu made his debut at the iconic Ateneul Român in Bucharest, Romania. The occasion was marked with three performances: two symphonic concerts and a liederabend.

The first two days, March 16th and 17th, were dedicated to Karol Szymanowski's Stabat Mater, op. 53, where Liviu sung the baritone solo under the baton of Leo Hussain alongside soprano Evgeniya Sotnikova and mezzo Aura Twarowska accompanied by the Orchestra simfonică & Corul Filarmonicii "George Enescu".

The third performance on March 18th finished with a Liederabend where Liviu performed the songs of Schubert, Brahms, Strauss, Mahler and Ravel. He was masterfully accompanied by French pianist Juliette Journaux.

Costin Popa from the Adevărul wrote the following:

"Liviu Holender has a pleasant, lyrical, round, velvety timbre, a voice with a sonority suitable for the hall. They are native gifts, complemented by a culture of style well anchored in the composition chosen for the consistent and demanding program, works by Franz Schubert, Johannes Brahms, Richard Strauss, Gustav Mahler, Maurice Ravel, 19th and 20th century exponents of romanticism, late romanticism and impressionism."

To conclude the evening, Liviu dedicated the encore to his father, Ioan Holender, for inspiring him to pursue a career as a singer.
